About the Record

Guitar World Record is the largest gathering of guitarists in the world and the biggest guitar orchestra, filling Wroclaw Market Square every May 1 with thousands of instruments and a unique shared energy.

The creator and artistic director of the event is Leszek Cichonski, a guitarist, composer and educator who has spent more than two decades developing the idea of playing together as an experience that brings people together across divisions.

The official record song is the legendary “Hey Joe”, performed with Leszek's new positive lyrics as “Hey Joe A New Story”. Our shared performance is a symbol of freedom, belief in positive change, guitar tradition and a musical dialogue between generations. This is the song counted toward the official record result. But Guitar World Record is much more than one song.

Every year we also perform other songs announced and arranged especially for the event. Participants receive educational materials, video instructions and practical support so they can prepare for the shared performance.

Because this is not only about the record.

It is about the remarkable energy of Uni-Vibe - Uniting Vibration of Music that we create in Wroclaw every May 1. It is also a symbolic sign, a gesture of connection, about which Jennifer Batten said “The World Needs This Sign”. It is the idea of a shared musical vibration that brings people together regardless of age, experience, playing style or origin. When thousands of people strike the same chords, something greater than sound appears - a community.
